DEATHSTINY: Custom Font and Anatomy of Typography Booklet

For my Typography class I had to make a custom font and then compile a booklet of typographic terms.

I chose to take inspiration from death metal band logos for my font. It's meant to look scratchy, rough, destroyed, loud, and scary. But also elegant in its own way, with a lot of repeating shapes and motifs. I drew out all the letters by hand, scanned them, and spent days in Photoshop adjusting them before I vectorized them for use. I structured the booklet, 26 pages minus the covers, into pairs of two pages. Each pair of pages has one black background and one white. Each pair's frame is made of shapes taken from one of the letters, and each frame is repeated twice with a mirrored version.

The word "Anatomy" on the front cover and "Deathstiny" on the back cover are meant to be harder to read and feel balanced on both ends, given the source inspiration!

I plan to add more and make it into a working font!
